Building Safety Programme

The purpose of these pages is to provide you with comprehensive information about the safety-related work being carried out at your property. Additionally, residents can access the most recent updates and frequently asked questions. You will also be able to retrieve essential documents, such as Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs) and Section 20 records.

If your building is not currently listed, there's no need for concern. This indicates that no extensive inspections or corrective actions have commenced at your property. In the initial phases, any inspection work is in its early stages. As our building safety program advances, if necessary, your building will have its own designated microsite on this platform. This ensures you always have access to the latest information available.

We consistently update the content on this page, so please revisit it to access the most recent version.

Stockwood Gardens

Newlands Road, Luton, LU1

Project Overview

Stockwood Gardens is a purpose-built residential apartment complex. The development consists of 11 apartment blocks in total with a mix of undercroft and surface parking. The apartment blocks average from a height of 5-7 floors.

Current Fire Safety Advice

Upon discovering a fire
Stockwood Gardens works on a Stay Put Policy. There are measures put in place should a fire break out, it will stay contained in the apartment it starts in for up to an hour. The building is designed to resist fire, stop smoke from spreading and provide a safe means of escape. If the fire is discovered by a resident or visitor in an internal flat, the area containing the fire should be evacuated, and the emergency services contacted (Call 999). Residents are responsible for taking precautions and preventative measures against fire within their own dwelling, including but not limited to; fire blankets and replacing smoke detector batteries. If the fire is discovered in a communal area, the specific area containing the fire should be evacuated and the emergency services called.

By having a 'Stay Put' policy, it is not implied that those not directly involved who wish to leave the building should be prevented from doing so, merely that it is not necessary to have a full building evacuation. Nor does this preclude those evacuating a flat that is on fire from alerting their neighbours so that they can also escape if they feel threatened.

The following actions should be taken once a fire discovered

  • Dial 999 and request attendance by the Fire Service. Resident gives their name, name of building, building address (as detailed in the title above), contact number and details of the fire. Never assume someone else has called 999 already.
Raise the alarm by breaking the glass in one of the fire alarm call points situated at strategic locations around the building.
  • Lifts are not to be used for evacuation, please use the front or rear fire escape stairwells to escape the building.
  • Find the closest fire exit and calmly exit the building.
  • If your exit is blocked by fire, please stay in the safest room after calling 999 and keep the door closed, and use towels or bedding to further reduce the smoke in the room.
